Yacon Prebiotic has the consistency of golden syrup, or thick honey, and a rich, sweet resinous taste that can remind the taste of raisins.
NZFOS+ Yacon Prebiotic contains natural prebiotics, polyphenols, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, supporting the growth and health of the microflora in our bodies. When our probiotic bacteria are well-taken care of and healthy, our body can maximize its intake of vitamins and minerals. By optimizing the absorption levels of our food, we are able to get more “bang for our buck”, so to speak, when we eat any other foods.
Three cultivars of Yacon were brought into New Zealand by Plant & Food Research in early 1990’s. Dr. Robert Welch, Dr. Jim Douglas, and their team experimented with different cultivars in ten growing areas across north and south of New Zealand for the highest production of natural FOS. New Zealand is now growing some of the most FOS-abundant yacon in the world.
Studies have shown that prebiotic FOS can selectively nourish the good bugs, and create an environment that discourages the bad ones, helping to reset the balance of your gut microbiome.
In 2013, researchers from Japan compared the difference of the prebiotic effect between yacon and commercialised FOS. The study shows that natural FOS is capable of encouraging gut microbes to produce twice as much beneficial SCFA (Short Chain Fatty Acids) as commercialised FOS can.
Encourages the growth & reproduction of 55+ bifidobacterium strains observed.
Helps to restore balanced microbial composition
Encourages gut bugs to secrete twice as much Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) as enzymatic prebiotics does
